Charles Russell Consultant seconded to RFU

3 July 2012

Charles Russell is delighted to announce that consultant Simon Johnson has been seconded to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to act as Project Manager. Simon will assist with the implementation of the Slaughter and May report into governance of the RFU.

The 2011 Slaughter and May review recommended amendments to the RFU rules and regulations and the governing body’s current practice. Simon’s role, which is non-legal is expected to last for six months. The role is similar to a previous role undertaken by Simon in which he successfully implemented the Burns Report which recommended a restructuring of the Football Association.

Simon Johnson is one of the most respected sports rights and business affairs advisers, with a 20 year career that has seen him operate at the highest levels of the sports and media industries. Simon has previously worked for the English Premier League, The Football Association, ITV and most recently served as COO of England’s Bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Keir Gordon, Head of the Sports & Media team at Charles Russell said: “Simon’s appointment further strengthens our relationship with the RFU. It is one of a number of engagements that we have recently secured in rugby. We wish Simon the best of luck in his new role.”

Simon Johnson said: “I am delighted to be joining the RFU and helping them with the implementation of these important recommendations which further demonstrate their commitment to excellence and delivering a high-calibre practice.”
