The Court of Protection (now part of the Supreme Court) has recently reviewed its Panel of Deputies and after a selection process has greatly reduced the number of individuals appointed nationwide. Private Client partner, Suzanne Marriott was successful in being selected for this prestigious appointment. A Court of Protection Deputy is someone who acts for an individual who lacks the mental capacity to manage his or her financial affairs, for example because of dementia, illness, stroke, or accident. A Panel Deputy is often used when there is no one else suitable or competent to be appointed, often because there is a dispute amongst the family or there is no family.
